Native Lands at Atlanta History Center
Explore the histories and cultural legacies of the Mississippian peoples, Muscogee and Cherokees in Georgia.
Native Lands at Atlanta History Center
Native Lands is an ongoing exhibition sharing the history and stories of Georgia’s original inhabitants, beginning with the Mississippian peoples and continuing with their descendants, the Muscogee and the Cherokees.
Long before European settlers arrived in what is now Georgia, Mississippian peoples developed complex societies with art, music, ceremony, agriculture, architecture and trade. The exhibition invites visitors to engage with this world and consider the deep histories of the land.
The exhibit also explores the cultural legacies of the Muscogee and Cherokee Nations prior to their removal from Georgia during the Trail of Tears in the 1830s.
Through objects, interpretation and immersive storytelling, visitors can better understand the people, places and traditions that shaped the region before and beyond European settlement.
